פרופ’ נורית כנען- קדר ונחמה ריבלין הן שתי נשים מיוחדות שדרכי הצטלבה עם דרכן והן הלכו לעולמן. עם נורית היתה לי הכרות לאורך מעל עשרים שנים, ברמות משתנות של אינטנסיביות ותמיד עם חוט מחבר . עם נחמה הכרות קצרה , חמה, שגלשה מהמקצועי לעבר החברי במהירות מפתיעה ולא הספיקה להפוך ליותר מהתחלה מבטיחה.
שתי הערות לגבי אופנים בו יזכרו.
(ושימו לב שהמילה “דעתנית” אינה מופיעה בטקסטים – משום מה מילה זו משמשת כמעט אך ורק לגבי נשים.כשגבר משמיע את דעתו זה כנראה נתפס כטבעי.לגבי אישה זו אחת המחמאות שמקפלות בתוכן יותר מקמצוץ ביקורת)

הערה על הספר “עם נורית: היסטוריון חוקר את אהבת חייו”, ב”ז קדר, (הוצאת כרמל, 2019)
פרופ’ נורית כנען -קדר הייתה מרצה שלי בתואר הראשון בתולדות האמנות ואח”כ המנחה של עבודת המאסטר. המאסטר שלי התארך מעבר למצופה: מה שהחל בשהות באוניברסיטה במינכן על מלגת מחקר שהייתה אמור להוביל למאסטר מהיר השתבש כליל בעקבות תאונת דרכים קשה שעברתי והעבודה הושלמה רק ארבע שנים לאחר המועד הצפוי. לאורך הזמן הזה היינו בקשר אינטנסיבי שגלש לא פעם לשיחות אישיות. שמעתי ממנה סיפורים שונים על חייה (היא הייתה מספרת סיפורים מחוננת) והתפעלתי תמיד כיצד לקחה את הלוז מתוכם כמקור לתובנות, בין היתר גם לקריאת אמנות.
הפרשייה העגומה של פרסום הספר אודותיה על ידי בן זוגה מעציבה. אעמיד דברים על דיוקם: למעט הפרק האחד שפורסם בעיתון, ועורר בי סלידה מידית, לא קראתי את הספר. יתכן ומדובר ביצירה ספרותית נדירה. 
מכל מקום, העובדה המקוממת היא שבעקבות הספר, הדיון הוא בשאלת מספר המאהבים שהיו לנורית והאם כן או לא סללה דרכה באקדמיה דרך חדר המיטות (כאסטרטגיה או בלית בררה).
פרופ’ כנען קדר הייתה חוקרת מהשורה הראשונה, מקורית ומעמיקה וכן, מלאת תשוקה. הייתה לה התלהבות מידבקת. בענייני פמיניזם – היא בהחלט נשאה את הנס. לשמוע את כנען קידר מדברת על דמויות כמו אליאונור מאקווטניה היה להאזין לשיח פמיניסטי לוהב. כמו כולנו, היא לא הייתה מלאך, אך פריזמת חיי האהבה שלה, ענינה בלבד, אינה הפריזמה בה אני מרגישה שנכון שתיזכר.

נחמה ריבלין נכנסה ישר ללב. הייתה לי הזכות להכיר אותה בארוחת ערב בבית הנשיא ואחר כך התכתבנו במייל ו whatsapp, בעיקר על אמנות ועם גלישה קלה לחיים. ריגש, והפתיע והחמיא כשחלקה אותי את הציפיה שלה להשתלה. כשהתקשרה וביקשה לבקר בתערוכה “אני ואתה ” שאצרתי בבית ביאליק השמחה שלי ושל אנשי הבית הייתה רבה. היא הגיעה עם המלווה המסורה שלה, בלון חמצן וכיסא גלגלים (כן, בית ביאליק מונגש לחלוטין, עדיף בתיאום מראש) – בלי ביטחון ובלי רכב שרד.
אחרי פגישה לבבית עם צוות הבית, ועם איילת ביטן – שלונסקי, מנהלת ואוצרת ראשית של המתחם, ועם יקיר בן משה, עורך התרבות בבית, ששפט בפרס רעיית הנשיא לשירה עברית, ביקרנו בתערוכות. נחמה התבוננה עבודה, עבודה. במיוחד אהבה את המטוטלת שהציגה ליטל רובינשטיין ואת העבודה של ראפת חטאב בה יצר פאזל עם שורה משיר של ביאליק בעברית וערבית. בספריה ניהלנו שיחה על הרעיון ההומני מאחורי השיר “נדנדה” (“שנינו שקולים במאזנים בין הארץ לשמים”) ועל תוכניות האוצרות בפרויקט המחקרי, אמנות בקומה השנייה. היא התענינה בתערוכה “תפנים” של דנה יואלי ותכננה לבקר בתערוכה “קיקלון” של תומר ספיר שאז הייתה בהכנה ובקרוב תיסגר. למרבה הצער לא הספיקה.
ימים ספורים אחרי הבוקר שבילינו יחד עברה את ההשתלה המצופה.
הדברים שנכתבים אודותיה היום נכונים , ואינם בבחינת אחרי מות, קדושים אמור. היא הייתה אישה עם השכלה רחבה מאד, חריפה, מסבירת פנים, צנועה, אוהבת אנשים ואמנות.

Shaping memory / Meetings with remarkable women

The late Prof. Nurith Kenaan-Kedar and Nechama Rivlin are two remarkable women with whom I had the good fortune to cross paths. I had a decades-long acquaintance with Nurith on changing levels of intensity, but always with a connecting link. A short but very warm acquaintance with Nechama Rivlin changed from professional to social with surprising rapidity, but unfortunately we were not given enough time to become more than a promising beginning.
Two comments on modes of remembering these remarkable women.
(Please note: the word “opinionated” does not appear in the texts – this word is almost only used for women. When a man airs his opinion, apparently it is perceived as “natural.” When applied to women, it is one of those compliments that embodies hidden criticism).

A comment on B.Z. Kedar’s book, With Nurith: An historian researches the love of his life, (Carmel Publishing, 2019).
I met Prof. Nurith Kenaan-Kedar when she was the lecturer in my undergraduate art history course. She later became faculty advisor for my Master’s Degree, which extended far beyond what I expected. The degree that began with a stay at the University of Munich supported by a study grant which was supposed to ensure a rapid conclusion, went off track after I sustained a serious car accident, to be completed only four years later. Throughout this entire period, we were in intensive contact, which frequently drifted towards the personal. She was an extremely gifted storyteller, and she told me various stories about her life. I was always surprised at how she used their essence for insights on the reading of art, among others.
The affair surrounding the publication of the book by her partner is embarrassing and pathetic. To clarify, except for one chapter, which I found appalling, which was excerpted in a newspaper, I have not read the book. Perhaps it is an outstanding literary work; at any rate, it is infuriating, that following publication, the discussion about Nurith was narrowed down to the number of lovers she had, and whether sexual liaisons paved her way to advance through academia, whether as chosen strategy or inevitable due to gender discrimination.
Prof. Kenaan-Kedar was a brilliant scholar, original, deep, and, yes, passionate. Her enthusiasm was contagious. In terms of feminism, she definitely held its banner high. Hearing her speak about historical figures such as Eleanor of Aquitaine was to listen to an inflammatory feminist discourse. Like all of us, she was no angel, but the prism of her private life is not the appropriate prism for her memory.

Nechama Rivlin stepped right into my heart. I had the privilege of meeting her at a dinner at the President’s Residence and following it we exchanged e-mails and Whatsapp messages, mainly about art, but extending into life. I was moved, surprised, and complimented when she confided in me that she was awaiting a lung transplant. When she called me to arrange a visit to the exhibit “Me and You” which I curated at the Bialik House Museum, the staff and I were extremely happy. Nechama arrived with her devoted escort, an oxygen canister and a wheelchair (the Museum is entirely accessible, preferably by appointment) – without security guards and without a limousine.
After heartfelt greetings to the staff, with Ayelet Bitan Shlonsky, Director and Chief Curator of the Bialik Complex, and Yakir Ben Moshe, its cultural programmer and member of the jury for the President’s Wife Hebrew Poetry Award, we toured the exhibition. Nechama observed each work carefully. She especially liked Lital Rubinstein’s Pendulum and Raafat Hattab’s puzzle made of Hebrew and Arabic lines from a poem by Bialik. In the Library, we discussed the humanism behind the poem “See Saw”(…”me and you, / both of us balanced on the scale between heaven and earth”) and the curatorial program for the research project “Art on the Second Floor.” She was interested in Dana Yoeli’s exhibit “Interior” and planned to visit the next exhibit, “Kikalon” by Tomer Sapir, then in preparation (soon to close). Unfortunately, she did not succeed. A few days after the memorable morning together, she underwent the long-awaited organ transplant.
The obituaries about her are accurate, and not posthumous praise. She was a woman with a very broad education, sharp-witted, welcoming, modest, who loved people and loved art.
Rest in peace, Nechama.
